ART EDUCATION - VISUAL CULTURE

Emphasis Study in Art Education and Visual Culture

This emphasis area is intended for students with a background and/or degree in visual art, visual communication, graphic design, studio art, art education, art history, or a related field who seek advanced study and inquiry into the social, cultural, and pedagogical implications of visual art and visual culture for, in, and as education.

Students who seek M.Ed. and M.S. degrees in this emphasis will focus on ways in which works of art and visual culture can be used as epistemological sites and modes of inquiry.

Students who pursue a Ph.D. in this emphasis area can build upon their previous knowledge in studio art, art education, art history, visual culture studies, curriculum or a related field and conduct meaningful, substantive research dedicated to ways art and visual culture promote social justice and cultural democracy.
