MENTORING

Master Level: Emphasis Study in Mentoring

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture offers a Master of Education and a Master of Science degree with a specialization in Mentoring.

These degrees prepare candidates to work with pre-service teachers and novice educators in diverse school environments from pre-school through higher education. The work of developmental mentoring, peer coaching and supervising of new educators is critical to the retention of new teachers and administrators.

Candidates will be prepared to analyze practices in induction programs, support new educators through "Best Practices" in Mentoring and assist other mentors. "Cutting Edge" approaches, research and outreach are a part of the newly designed courses especially for this field of study. Our goal is to support and strengthen our quality educators who can then support student learning and success!

Doctoral Level: C&I with emphasis study in Mentoring and Supervision

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture is pleased to offer a doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in MENTORING and SUPERVISION .

This degree prepares candidates to work in leadership positions in schools and school districts, service centers and state agencies that support the development and implementation of school-wide, district-wide and state-wide mentoring programs with an emphasis on educator retention. Candidates will be prepared to work in curriculum, personnel, induction and mentoring program development.

The doctoral program with the study emphasis in Mentoring requires a year-long internship in mentoring research and mentoring applications. All candidates will be prepared to analyze practices in induction programs, develop and supervise programs for pre-service teachers and novice educators, including counselors and administrators; as well as novice mentors. Students can select to study mentoring in specialty areas such as: Mentoring in Urban Centers, Mentoring in Higher Education, Mentoring in Administrative Positions, Mentoring in ESL and Mentoring in PK-12 Schools.
